Leeds University SWSS Meeting – “We are the 99%”- Why Occupy? October 27

Last weekend over 1-million people took to the streets under the slogan “We are the 99%” in the biggest global day of protest since 2003.
This all takes place in the shadow of the crisis, the glorious ‘Arab Spring’ and the wave of general strikes across Europe.
So what is this new movement, is it all that new? what are the advantages of occupation in relation to other forms of protests? Why is it bigger in some places than others? How do youth protests relate to the trade unions and strikes? and can protest kick out the 99%?
Come along and discuss all these questions and more. All Welcome.x
