Latest advice on appealing a bedroom tax decision

A number of tenants around the country have made successful appeals against housing benefit decisions requiring them to pay the bedroom tax.

If you want to appeal last year’s decision you will need to do it immediately, as the deadline is 13 months from the date of the original decision. You will also need to explain why you did not appeal within one month of the original decision. You may be able to argue that you did not know until now that you had possible grounds for appeal.

It will probably be easier to appeal against your new Housing Benefit decision, which you should receive towards the end of March. You should do it within one month of the date on the decision letter.
