Leeds Stand Up To UKIP

One thousand anti-racists marched outside UKIP’s conference in Doncaster in September
Thanks to everyone who came to the first organising meeting of Stand Up to UKIP in Leeds, and thanks to those who helped spread the word about the meeting.  There was a good discussion of the nature of the threat posed by UKIP’s racist populism both locally and nationally, and the kind of response needed from anti-racists to this.
Coming out of the meeting there are plans to have an official launch meeting for the group
in around mid-February time, and there was discussion about various people who we should consider inviting to speak at this event from a range of backgrounds – for example prospective parliamentary candidates, trade unions, faith communities, anti-racist groups and so on.  Portsmouth recently had a successful launch meeting of a local Stand Up to UKIP group – we should be aiming to emulate…
